KUMIHIMO: The Art of Japanese Silk Braiding by DOMYO is the first exhibition in the United States to explore the history and art of Japanese silk braiding, or kumihimo (“braided cords”). The JAPAN HOUSE touring exhibition is produced by Yusoku Kumihimo Domyo (Domyo), a Tokyo-based company that has been making braided silk cords by hand since 1652.

Tours of the KUMIHIMO: The Art of Japanese Silk Braiding by DOMYO are now being offered!
Tours are led by the JHLA staff guides who have been trained in the history and techniques of Japanese silk braiding.
Tours include a 30-minute walkthrough of the exhibition followed by a demonstration of kumihimo braiding and a chance to try some basic braiding.

Length: 40 minutes (30 min tour + 10 min braiding demo)
